Brick Shitters: Or The Search for a Better Crafting Game -- Colton Spross
Crafting systems in games usually feel like an afterthought stapled onto an existing game to pad out the experience. They often boil down to tedious grinding and combinatorics. Yet in the real world people pour a great deal of time and passion into traditional crafts like pottery, woodworking, and knitting. Why is crafting in games so boring when real handicrafts are a rewarding and passionate pursuit for millions of people?

Colton Spross, maker of Home Improvisation, talks about taking inspiration from traditional crafts and making hyper-specific games that explore the nuanced and tactile world of handicrafts. 

Create a New Passage: Why I Chose Gamemaking to Tell Stories About Healing -- Kaitlin Tremblay
As a writer with a background in literature and an editor at a Canadian publishing house, making games in Twine has been an avenue for healing that literature and publishing doesn’t provide. This healing happens largely through being able to tell stories in our own way, and being able to connect to others who struggling with the same types of pain and recovery.

Kaitlin Tremblay, writer and designer of Say When, Lights Out Please, and other Twines, talks about the relationship between book publishing and video games, and how being an independent gamemaker has opened up a greater space to create art and write stories that enable me to feel more in control of her healing.
